About

Me

Hi, I’m James. I’m a 41-year-old married developer from North Wales, and I’ve got two kids. Why am I bringing up my kids? Because that’s where the strange name comes from – I call my son Moo and my daughter Bug.

My interest in code started in secondary school when I made “Giles Files” a Buffy fan site built in Microsoft Frontpage. That lead to learning HTML, CSS, PHP, Pearl, Javascript and running servers and message boards (again, Buffy related).

These days most of my coding is in Swift and SwiftUI. I no longer make Buffy-related things, but apparently that was the gateway drug.

My Work

I make small apps, tools, calculators, and other bits that mostly start because I wanted them for myself.

Sometimes that’s an iPhone app. Sometimes it’s a web tool. Sometimes it’s a script to run Halloween animatronics. Mostly it’s just me trying to solve a problem that annoyed me more than it should have.

I’m not building things because I’ve done market research or found a gap in the industry. I’m usually building them because I thought, “surely there’s a better way to do this,” and then apparently decided I should be the one to make it.

If other people find them useful too, that’s a bonus.

This Site

This site is where I put the things I’m working on.

Some of them will be finished. Some will be in progress. Some may disappear if I realise they were a bad idea.

Moobugs is mostly just me making things for myself and sharing them in the hope that they help someone else.
